This is the first English novel by an African author. Plaatje was a founding member of the A.N.C. and it's Secretary General in 1912.
Mhudi is a political historic novel originally written in 1920 but Plaatje was unable to get it published. The novel explores the development of the Transvaal kingdom lead by Matabeleland.
