Hiram MUNGER (1806-1902). The Life and Religious Experience of Hiram Munger, Including Many Singular Circumstances Connected with Camp-Meetings and Revivals. Written by himself. Chicopee Falls, Mass.: published and for sale by the Author … and at the Office of the “Crisis”, 167 Hanover St., Boston, 1856. Duodecimo (6 ½ x 4 1/4in; 165 x 108mm). Pp [i-iv; 9-]10-180; [1-]2-25; [i-iii; i-ii; i-ii; 1-]2-3; [I; 1-]2-4. (Some staining, one leaf creased). Original brown cloth (worn, light old damp damage).
A valuable and quite rare autobiography from Millerite Hiram Munger: of value ‘to the student of Millerism because of the author's first hand knowledge of [the Millerite] Camp events’ (Francis D. Nichol “The Midnight Cry). Kaplan: American Autobiographies 4159:"Munger tells of his religious development and his saw mill business in Massachusetts." The work was evidently quite popular as it went through a number of editions – a third edition was published in 1881. This first remains rare.
