viii pages and 48 full page plates including 2 chromolithographs, with accompanying descriptive text, 4to (315 x 240 mm), black cloth spine titled gilt and blue cloth boards, a fine copy.

'The okapi (Okapia Johnstoni), also known as the forest giraffe, Congolese giraffe and zebra giraffe, is an artiodactyl mammal that is endemic to the northeast Democratic Republic of the Congo in central Africa.' https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Okapi

'Few events of recent years have aroused the interest of naturalists so much as the discovery of the okapi.'  https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.33.837.65.b

It is doubtful whether the Atlas will be followed by a volume of text at a later date. The necessity for publishing the text is less great now than it was when the work was originally projected, in consequence of the appearance of Fraipont's large monograph in 1907, of the paper by M. de Rothschild and H. Neuville in the present year and of other publications on the same subject. It is hoped, however, that the illustrations will speak for themselves, and that they will be of service as a contribution to our knowledge of the rare animal which forms the subject of the Monograph.' From the Preface.
