George (Milwa) Pemba (1912-2001).

Pen and ink sketch on paper of Mrs Ariah Bookholane of New Brighton, Port Elizabeth. Signed M. Pemba 1989.

Excellent provenance. The present owner was a friend of George Pemba and the sketch was commissioned and purchased by him as a companion-piece from an existing formal portrait by the artist.

Presently framed in a plain black aluminium frame. Sold unframed.

Slightly foxed and with 3 soft folds visible on close inspection. Mrs Ariah Bookholane was a well-known school teacher and linguist in New Brighton and a close friend of George Pemba. She did translations for George Pemba from Sesotho to Xhosa / English.

The image is a scan of a photograph of the sketch.
