Collated and complete. Full green cloth with matching leather corners, with colour illustrations and lettering on the upper panel and spine, plain endpapers, all edges gilt, 6 pp of index + 672 pp of b/w illustrated text.
Although this was a weekly survey of Britain's military events at home and throughout the world, much of Volume IX is devoted to the early months of the Anglo-Boer War, from "The Transvaal Crisis. The Story of the Trouble from the Very Commencement" (pp 3-4) to "The Orange River Frontier" and "Volunteer Engineers for Roberts" (pp 671-2), with frequent full-page essays on "The Story of the War".
CONDITION NOTES. The boards are lightly rubbed, mainly at the edges, but the detail of the illustrations and lettering on the upper face and spine remains clear. New endpapers have been fitted and although the binding is now sound a crack remains between the lower half of the title-page verso and the first page of the contents; but with no hinge damage. The text pages - mainly art but with a 4 pp matt section on "Navies & Armies of the World from Week to Week" in each issue - are unmarked and there is no foxing or other discolouration.
This rare complete copy of Vol IX of Navy and Army Illustrated is in better than very good overall condition. It's a heavy volume and will require careful packing and despatch by Postnet or courier.
