The addressee, Capt. C.R.S.Pitman was Director, Security Intelligence (Uganda) 1941-1946, Game Warden of the Uganda Protectorate, 1925-1951 and Acting Game Warden in Northern Rhodesia, 1931-1933. He was the author of ' Guide to the Snakes of Uganda' (1974), ' A Game Warden Among His Charges' (1931) and 'A Game Warden Takes Stock '(1942). His papers form The Pitman Collection at The Natural History Museum, a complete set of his Annual Reports of the Game Department in Uganda and other papers are held at the Rhodes House Library ( Oxford) and two recordings of the author have been deposited at the British Library Sound Archive.
