  • green cloth-boards, blind design and gilt lettering to upper board and spine, top page-edge tinted green, plain endpapers, colour map of the Nile as frontispiece, xviii, 413 pp of text and index + 2 pp of publisher's announcements + second larger 10-fold colour map, 25 additional illustrations from sketches by author
  • spine-ends and corners bumped, endpapers sunned, ownership signature on front free endpaper, top page-edge bright, contents, including maps and illustrations, complete, unmarked and undiscoloured, spine-crack at  front, but hinges holding, 3 leaves, pp xv-xx, loose but in position
