Thomas Mann Nocturnes with lithographs by Lynd Ward. New York: published by Equinox Cooperative Press Inc., 1934. Octavo (8 3/8 x 5 3/4 in; 213 x 146mm). Pp.[1-]7-61[-64]. Half-title, title with lithographed vignette, limitation page. Lithographed title vignette, 3 full-page illustraions and 3 head-piece illustrations, all lithographed by Lynd Ward. Original blue-grey cloth decorated in black, foil label to spine, slipcase with illustrated paper title label. (Spine somewhat faded, a couple of small marks to the lower cover [see images], wear to extremities of slipcase). Provenance: Kay Kampp (fine contemporary woodcut bookplate, note to foot of frint free endpaper 'Christmas 1934'

A signed limited edition, the first in this format. Only 1000 copies were printed, all were signed by the author. This copy is nimber 101 of the 990 examples which were for sale. The work includes three unattributed translations of short stories by Mann: they are here titled: "A Gleam," "Railway Accident" and "A Weary Hour." The illustrations are original lithographs that Lynd Ward produced especially for the present work.
