Nelson Mandela's foreword is a moving opening for this book, written by someone who is not only one of South Africa's best legal minds but who was a confidant, adviser and legal representative of Mandela and his colleagues "for close to sixty years".

The otherwise perfect laminated photographic dustjacket is marred by a faint brown damp ring to the front. The black printed paper-boards are rubbed at the top. The grey endpapers are unmarked, as are the book's 616 pp of text and two series of inserted lithographic sepia plates.
