Although Mrs Trotter, who died in 1961 in her 100th year, spent only the three years of 1896-98 at the Cape (living the rest of her life, when not travelling, in Wiltshire, England), she quickly became the first authority on old Cape houses, visiting and recording them on one of the first bicycles seen at the Cape. Her South African stay coincided with the appointment of her husband, Alexander Trotter, as Cape Government electrical engineer.
"Old Cape Colony", which was reprinted in 1928, was her second book on the subject, the first, published three years earlier, being "Old Colonial Houses of the Cape of Good Hope, illustrated and described".
Despite some binding cracks, this remains a complete and good copy.
