Neville Dubow ended his acknowledgements with: "And, finally, my homage to Irma Stern. Towards the end of her life she expressed the hope that I would write a book about her. This is the second one; it is more than a book about her. It is, in every sense, her book."
The book's immediacy, passion and colour epitomise South Africa most highly rated painter - in 112 quarto pages, half in colour, including her 52 pp journal, "discovered, after the artist's death, lodged at the back of a disused cupboard in the studio of her house some time after its conversion into the Irma Stern Museum".
This is a rare unmarked, mint copy - protected dustjacket, grey cloth-boards, lettered in silver to the upper board and the spine, and illustrated text on matt art.
