Hand coloured continuous strip-etching illustrating the nursery rhyme. Seven sections each measuring 85 x 230 mm and the seven folded out measure 1610 mm. Folds into hand coloured card covers with red cloth back – 85 x 240 mm.
The rhyme is printed in English and French on the upper cover on either side of a hand coloured title vignette. The rhyme is repeated in Hebrew, Latin, Welsh, Greek, German and Italian inside the front cover.
A note on the upper cover states, ‘This little book was written and illustrated by The Rev. Samuel Edward Maberly M.A. (1st president of the Oxford University Book Club ) in 1843. To Claire, Anne, Michael – Charles.’
The cloth back or binding is a little strained but the hand coloured strip is bright and in excellent condition.
Abbey J.R.) Life In England, no. 599 (page 397) lists an uncoloured variant with only four translations of the rhyme.
