This publication contains a selection from the author's letters contributed to the Morning Post, while acting as war correspondent, and are characterised by considerable vigour and freedom of language.(Mendelssohn's volume 2 page 451) Covers engagements at Elandslaagte, Tinta Inyoni, Dundee, Ladysmith, & Mafeking, the last two of which in some detail.

Gilt title on red cloth boards. 413pp illustrated,  4 folding maps (2 of Mafeking & 2 of Ladysmith). 8vo.  One map torn but without loss. Bookplate of previous owner in front. Light foxing on a few pages. Uncut page edges.
