Follower of REMBRANDT Harmenszoon van Rijn.

["Portrait of a Native American woman, half-length directed to the right, wearing a feather headdress and holding a quiver with arrows"]

[No place: undated but c. 1650-1743]. Etching on paper (3 7/8 x 2 15/16in; 99 x 75mm), inscribed in the plate 'Rembrandt  f. / 1632'. (Margins cut close to platemark, but otherwise excellent). Framed and glazed.

Rare re-imagining of the 'noble savage' - not Rembrandt, but a skillful and attractive image nonetheless.

The title and attribution are taken from the description of the copy in the British Musem, Department of Prints and Drawings (their reg. number: F,6.187). Their records show that their example was acquired in 1743.
