Clipped dustjacket with colour rock painting, full-bound in maroon buckram, gilt to spine, plain endpapers, colour frontispiece, xx of prelims, including map, notes on the authors, members of the National Publications Trust and the names of some 215 subscribers to the book, + 267 pp of text, with 116 colour and monochrome plates and 56 figures in the text, and three indexes - to sites and subjects as well as a general index.
CONDITION. The dustjacket is complete but spine and edge-chipped. The boards are fine except for light shelf-rubbing. The binding remains tight. The contents are complete, unmarked except for an ownership signature on the front free endpaper, and undiscoloured.
This landmark book, which was compiled and published with care and affection nearly sixty years ago, has, over the years, with its extensive reproduction of examples from all the main sites, made a major contribution to knowledge of African rock art.
