This is a well-preserved copy of one of the rare satirical books from the days of the Transvaal republic. The edition and year of publication are not indicated, but the production, from a London publisher, is attractive.
Green cloth-boards with gilt design (an artistic rendering of voorlaaier, 16 inspanned oxen and and ox-wagen) and lettering to the upper panel and gilt lettering to the spine. [xii] + x + 129 pp of text with chapter and other decorations. The copy has been well repaired with a new matching spine panel, with the original spine cover laid down, and new plain endpapers. Light wear at the head of the spine cover and rubbed corners. Tightly bound. All edges gilt.
Owner details and date (25.6.21) and presentation label on the fly-leaf, library stamp on the half-title and distribution label, printed in red, tipped in to the title-page. Other small library stamps opposite the contents. The contents are otherwise unmarked but are lightly age-toned.
