Compiled by the famous South African historian, George McCall Theal from a collection of source documents housed in the archives of Portugal, Britain and South Africa. These documents deal with the history of the Portuguese along the coast of eastern Africa from late 15th century until late 19th century. The text is mainly in Portuguese, Dutch and English, but has English translations. Theal translated the writings of both Dos Santos and de Barros, relating to the Portuguese in eastern Africa, from Portuguese to English.
