A similar report, for two years earlier, was sold on a previous auction in this series. This 1901 report is in better condition than the previous volume and the only small defect is that part of the spine cover needs to be reglued to the side-stitched text-block.
Hutchins, the main author of this report, was also the author of "A Journal of a Forest Tour" (1892).
As before, there are four conservancy reports, for the Western, Midlands, Eastern and Transkei conservancies. Compared with the 1899 report, the pagination has increased from 115 to 175, making this both a fascinating and a detailed report by forestry officers who in addition to their beeding, planting and harvesting duties built up a rapport with the public that was a major contributor to the greening of the present Cape Province and to private revenues from forest products.
The volume is therefore strongly recommended to all concerned with forestry development more than a century later.
