Scouting for Boys was originally issued in six fortnightly parts beginning on the 15th. January 1908.It was largely based on B.P\'s military service in Africa, particularly at the Siege of Mafeking. It was so popular that in May 1908 a complete edition containing a slightly revised text and with illustrations by B. P. appeared in both hardback and paperback editions. It was reprinted a further five times during that year. It has become one of the world\'s best selling books.
