This work supplements Norman Penzer’s wide-ranging bibliography of Burton's works. It had been found that the bibliography included descriptions of items that were virtually unobtainable they were so rare. Penzer, taking pity on the frustrated collectors, made a selection of these rarities and here reprints them in ten 'chapters'. He also offers a commentary on each. They are sub-titled: Early Days in Sind; Guide-Book to Mecca; A Trip to Harar; Notes on Scalping; A Day Amongst the Fans; Notes on the Dahoman; Chapters from Travels; Notes on Rome; Spiritualism in Eastern Lands; and Giovanni Battista Belzoni.
