Author's diary. The diary of a young nurse, F.E. Wookey, (related to the missionary Rev. A.J. Wookey of the London Missionary Society) from 13th October 1899 to 16th February 1900. This details her experiences in the hospital attending to the casualties, and highlights the townspeople’s frustration over the delay of Lord Methuen’s relief force. The dire shortage of food, the arrival of the Boer’s big gun, civilian gossip and rumours are all covered in this interesting narrative.
