Sketches by Ida Mae Stone and Harry Clayton, published on the occasion of Johannesburg’s ninetieth birthday, edited by Anna H. Smith, (City Librarian and Director of the Africana Museum), forward, bibliography, index to item numbers, over 100 line illustrations, 208 pages, 245 x 160mm, one slight tear to lower reverse edge of dust jacket, condition: very good.
These Stone-Clayton sketches are extremely important historical documents as very little in the way of original drawings of this period have survived, mainly because of the popularity of the camera. These drawings often give the only graphic representation of scenes in Natal and the Transvaal as they were in the eighties and nineties. (Anna H. Smith, City Librarian)
