Two volume set, bound in the original half-leather/russet-coloured boards. Spotting and foxing to end-papers, and some light spotting throughout, edges uncut, some damp-stains to page edges of volume 2, from about p.33-50; otherwise a nice, tightly bound set. Owner signature on half-title of vol.2 (Boles-Reeves?). Volume 1 has 3 sections: South Africa's early Dutch and English history, Natal, and the Cape. Volume 2 has 4 sections: The Transvaal, Griqualand West, The OFS, and Native Territories. Of particular interest are the notes on the way of life of the Boers, early diamond digging in Griqualand West, and the struggle for independence of the Boers.
