First edition, complete in one volume (pp. [758]) includes correspondence and papers relating to, among other matters (1) Explosives Monopoly in the Republic, (2) Complaints of British Subjects, (3) Claim for Damages on account of Dr. Jameson’s Raid, (4) Bloemfontein Conference, (5) Proposed Political Reforms in the Republic, arbitration of differences, new franchise, etc., (6) Status of the South African Republic, (7) Conspiracy at Johannesburg, (8) Outbreak of War.  South Africa Imperial Blue-Books, items 9317, 9343, 9345, 9404, 9415, 9518, 9521, 9507, 9530 ( Mendelssohn II, 707- 708). Folio (33 cm) in half morocco over pebbled cloth, gilt titles, marbled endpapers. “Most important matter of a vital period in the history of the South African Republic and affecting the whole of South Africa….The names of men of all shades of political opinion in all walks of life appear therein playing their part” (catalogue item, Africana Antiquarians, Port Elizabeth, 1952, included). T[homas] A[allnutt] Brassey’s,1863- 1919, killed by a taxi) bookplate.  Second Earl Brassey and Captain in the Imperial Yeomanry during the second Boer War; later Civil Commissioner at Pretoria. Top edge of front cover sun-faded, pencilled marginalia in places. Else a Near Fine copy.
