Lithographed title page as frontis, pp.15 of letterpress, 15 lithograph plates containing 31 drawings of which 16 are hand-coloured, most plates with tissue guards, original blind stamped cloth, gilt title on cover. Board corners worn, occasional light foxing. An early record of hunting and fauna in the Eastern Cape frontier region. Butler, a graduate of the Trinity College in Dublin, served with the 29th (The 2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot. In 1837-38 he travelled to the hunting grounds of the Bontebok Flats near King William's Town.
