These two titles complement each other, and both are illustrated. Meintjes's book (in English) is a narrative written around Scheepers but including many other war leaders and engagements. Jordaan's book (in Dutch) covers the execution for alleged war crimes in the Cape Colony of Scheepers and 41 others. The 15-page Scheepers entry includes a eulogy by the famous Cape Town dominee Dr Andrew Murray as well as extracts from Scheepers's diary (then in the possession of Edgar Wallace and the Rand Daily Mail) and his long open letter to the commandant-generals of the South African and Orange Free State republics, written in the short time between his court martial and execution, which he asks to be forwarded to his mother.

Newly bound in full brown Skivertex with gilt-embossed lettering to the upper panel and spine and new plain endpapers. 208 pp of b/w illustrated contents, list of illustrations and text. Complete, some pp lightly sunned. Owner signature on title-page, which is missing the top 8 mm, and three other small pen markings.
