159pp. illustrated biography on the famous philosopher, theologian, musical scholar, and medical doctor; concentrating on his medical facility and farming village established in Lambarene (modern day Gabon) to assist the local inhabitants. He saw this service as a kind of penance in return for the joy the gospel of Jesus had given him, and as an attempt at correcting the injustices meted out by European culture over the centuries on the poorer coloured races of Africa.
