This is a a rare near-fine copy of the first edition of 1950, remarkably preserved and lightly read by its previous owner or owners but with no ownership or other marks.
Colour-illustrated dustjacket. Green cloth-boards with gilt design to the upper panel and gilt lettering to the spine. Light-green endpapers printed to show an aloe design in reverse. xxiv + 520 pp of text illustrated by no fewer than 572 b/w photographs, drawings and other figures, glossary and index + 77 inserted full-page colour plates of the more important or rarer aloes on gloss art paper.
CONDITION NOTES. The unclipped dustjacket (price: 3 pounds 13s and 6d) is lightly edge-chipped but remains bright and presents well. The boards are unblemished and the binding remains tight. The verso of the front free endpaper has a repetition of the original price in pencil. The contents are complete, unmarked and undiscoloured. The front page-edge is lightly foxed, more so towards the back.
All in all, a collectable copy of the standard edition.
