This was a companion volume to the same author's Aloes of South Africa "published 16 years earlier and now out of print". Reynolds, who was a Johannesburg optician and only an amateur botanist, became the leading authority on the aloes of Africa and the adjacent island of Madagascar.
He dedicated the current volume to the South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), "whose financial support covered the cost of the colour plates and the production of the book in such a complete form".
Colour photographic dustjacket, green cloth-boards, gilt design to the upper board and gilt design and lettering to the spine, illustrated endpapers, xxii + 537 pp of prelims, including a two-colour map of the author's travels in search of aloes, b/w illustrated text, glossary and index + 106 inserted colour plates from the author's aloe photographs.
CONDITION. The dustjacket is edge-chipped, the boards are fine despite a lightly rubbed foot of spine, the contents are complete, unmarked and undiscoloured and are in near-fine overall condition - making this a collectible copy of a volume published more than fifty years ago.
