First edition in dw. of the Author's only novel and arguably the most significant South African novel in English after Olive Schreiner's Story of An African Farm and before the much later novels of Nadine Gordimer.
A near fine copy in the original olive green cloth with gilt lettering on the spine. Some offsetting on the free endpapers (endemic to this title), otherwise a very clean unmarked and unfoxed copy. In the scarce dw. which is very good minus, somewhat edge worn with a 3mm. defect at the top of the spine and a 10mm. defect at its base.
