Tjader's 1909 safari into British East Africa brought him to some of the finest big game hunting lands of the time. He crossed the Sotik River, proceeding to the Lakipia Hills, the area near Mt. Elgon, along the Athi and Tana Rivers and the Guaso Nyiro. His literary approach is through an examination of the various big game species such as lion, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros, the antelopes, etc., then relating his hunting experiences. This book includes a 51 page guide to the Ki-Swahili language [Czech, p. 285].

Original dark green, finely-ribbed cloth with bright gilt titles and embossed lion head on the front cover, and gilt titles on the spine. Cloth very lightly edge-rubbed, corners square. Original endpapers beginning to split at the inner hinges but the text block to cover remains firm and tight. Well illustrated with photo plates and a folding map. Scattered light foxing. A previous owner has lightly pencilled in marginal notes to the occasional page with very minor underlining confined to a few sentences or words.
