This item was issued in (4) parts with plain or hand-coloured engravings. Subscribers were bound to take all parts which were then bound as one. The New Edition was much expanded by Sharpe and covered a larger area of South Africa than the first edition, the plates were new also - thus rendering this a much superior edition to the original.
Half leather over marbled boards. teg. xxv + 890pp with 11 only of the 12 hand-coloured engraved plates present.
Externally worn. Marbled ffep not present, text block solid. pp 856 through 866 not present (unpublished). Frontis and plate 4 not present, plates 7 & 9 bound out of sequence. pp 284, 537. 539, 687, 715, 723, 759 have loss or tears, edgewear, but not affecting legibility of text. pp xxiii, 583-586, loose and with edge wear not affecting legibility of text. Index pp 867 through 890) parting. Overall a less than Good copy and sold with all faults.
