'Marinus smoked his pipe of peace and of Transvaal tobacco, and I opened the brass bottle, which, indeed, is no bottle at all, but, as everyone not vulgarly inclined knows, a fairy-tale metaphor for one's imagination.' ( from chapter one, The Castle).
