Included are gilt decorated strips of synthetic leather that a previous owner intend to use as the spines when the books were to be re-bound.
Two volume set bound in the original blue buckram with gilt titling and decorations on the spines.
Volume 1 has xvii prelims, 359 pages, profusely illustrated in black and white, plus 13 maps and charts, 17 photogravure plates.
Volume 2 has xv prelims, 353 pages, profusely illustrated in black and white, plus 11 full page photogravure plates of which the frontis is in full colour, 2 maps including the folding coloured map at the rear.
CONDITION DETAILS: The folding map at the rear of volume 2 has some spotting/foxing and edge ceases. The bindings are worn and faded with some scarring/white marks, but they are still strong and tight. Signs of use internally, but still reasonably clean.
