The Durban Riots were an anti-Indian Riot predominantly by Zulus targeting Indians in January 1949. They resulted in the massacre of predominantly poorer Indians and a total of 142 people died . The Ilanga Lase Natal newspaper lambasted Indians for having 'not only better rights, but a sense of snobbishness and superiority over the Africans'.( SA History Online)
