This is a facsimile of the original 1902 edition with additional material.
The importance of this lot is that it is one of the few books (both the 1902 original and this augmented 1978 facsimile) to trace the journeyings and history of one of South Africa's important people, the Griquas (or the Griqua Nation, as they still refer to themselves), from their origins around Douglas in the Northern Cape, in what was then Griqualand West, via Philippolis in the Southern Free State (1823-1861, where they governed the south-west quarter of the Orange Free State Republic), to their last (forced) move to and settlement in "Nomansland" - Kokstad and Matatiele - in today's East Griqualand.
Cream wove dustjacket printed in black to all faces. Green Skivertex boards, gilt to spine. xix pp of prelims and introduction + 120 pp of original text + 25 original inserted plates; + 130-192 pp of addition notes, bibliography and index + additional inserted plates.
