[Two of Schoeman's minor titles in Afrikaans are in Lot 402]
The author (who died earlier this year) was one of South Africa's leading and most prolific writers of fiction and non-fiction in English and Afrikaans. The back flap singles out his biography of Olive Schreiner as one of his best works, but others will have their own favourites.
In The Face of the Country, Schoeman selects and presents 273 photographs, mainly portraits, from the South African Library in Cape Town, taken over more than half a century between 1860 and 1910, to illustrate the variety of the population (and a few buildings) South Africa.
B/w photographic dustjacket with yellow lettering, black paper-boards with white lettering to the spine, 144 pp of preface, introduction, captioned duotone photographs, appendix and index - all on art paper and printed in Singapore.
CONDITON. In very good overall condition with a minimum of chips and rubbing to the dustjacket and spine. The contents are complete and unmarked, with no foxing or other discolouration.
