This book combines detailed descriptions and distribution maps (there are 5 pp of these in two colours) of the world's 39 falcon species (including hobbies and kestrels) (Falco is the single genus), with brilliant paintings of each species. The many scientific tables include the hunting success rates of various species in different conditions (from 5% and 7.5%, for autumn migrations, to as high as 93%, for nesting, coastal marsh).

Plastic-protected colour dustjacket, unclipped (18 pounds net), with a painting of a female Peregrine Falcon, original blue cloth-boards, plain blue endpapers, 190 pp of text, bibliography and index all on matt art-paper and illustrated in the text with 4 double-page and 39 full-page colour paintings of the various species.

CONDITION. This copy started life as a review copy, though for which publication is not known. Despite this, It remains as-new in all respects, except for a light review copy stamp; lightly, if at all, read, making it probably as fine a copy as any available to the specialist collector 36 years after publication.
