It was for this book that Hesse was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature.

Colour pictorial dustjacket, quarter-bound in black cloth, gilt to the spine, and blue paper-boards, plain black endpapers, 558 pp of text on eggshell wove paper.

CONDITION. The dustjacket is essentially complete but extensively repaired. The spine is lightly rubbed. The boards are fine. The endpapers and contents are complete, unmarked and undiscoloured.
