The original Hebrew edition was published in 1948.

This is a rare copy of the first English edition, translated three years later, with an unclipped dustjacket (21s net).

Now that the first new Israeli settlements for some years are being established on the West Bank, Dr Granott's book acquires a new relevance, covering as it does Palestine's land ownership history from before the Arab conquest to the last day of the Mandate, and including Arab, Christian and Jewish settlements.

The author ends his foreword to the English edition thus: "This book . . . may be of some practical value for anyone working on problems of the future in this part of the Middle East . . . [It] is a piece of historical research of an important section of Palestine's economy, and the author has endeavoured . . . to give a comprehensive picture and an objective description of the land regime in Palestine during the last hundred years."

359 pp of text, notes and index + 3 fold-out plans inserted between pp 208 and 209.
