How it works

First Edition: 271 pages, folding map, original blue blind stamped cloth fraying at the top of the spine, titled gilt, front hinge tender, a very good copy.

These translations were commissioned by the Royal Geographical Society in response to the increase in interest caused by Livingstone's account of Cazembe and central Africa.

Penzer (Norman M.) An Annotated Bibliography of Sir Richard Francis Burton, pages 89/90, 'Burton's portion of the book ends on page 164. He had, however, written two appendices, which were rejected by the R.G.S. which considered them to be in the nature of controversy and criticism. Burton published them privately in Trieste in July of the same year.'
