• The first edition was by the second author alone; both were published by the University of Pretoria, in whose Mammal Research Institute both authors worked

This is an excellent copy of a very good and heavy book, with square and tight binding and complete, unmarked and undiscoloured contents - slate-grey cloth-boards, gilt to upper panel and spine, brown illustrated endpapers, xxvii/771 pp including many of Dick Findlay's colour plates
