Signed and with the inscription on the ffep, 'Mrs. (?) Geoffrey Clarke/ from the/ "Major Frank Johnson"/ referred to within/ 2. 2. '20' and Johnson’s calling card placed at p. 96 where Johnson, who is singled out in appreciation for his help to the author, is portrayed. Oddly, there is a second, prior inscription on the half-title page, 'To my son Derrick/ from his affectionate Father/ Frank Johnson/ Nov. (?) 1909/ "Haec olim meminisse iuvabit" - later we will look back on this and find it funny.
