Copy of, and signed on the paste-down by, the 6th Baron (J V B) de Saumarez (b 1932), son of the 5th Baron, who as the Hon J St V B Saumarez (1889-1969) was a lieutenant (and later a captain) in the Scots Guards, wounded in the Great War and mentioned on four pages in this book. Loosely inserted is a handwritten page from a letter from the son referring to one of his parents' highlights, "when they were invited to the Royal Supper Room" for a "Court Ball in Buckingham Palace". 

Other Scots Guards officers were the ornithologist C W Mackworth-Praed (see Lot 311) and several Mackenzies (see Lot 316), including Private James Mackenzie, VC, Captain  W C Mackenzie, DSO, and Lt-Col Sir Victor A F Mackenzie. 

Red cloth boards, gilt and black to the upper panel, black to the spine. Plain endpapers. xiii + inserted errata sheet + 349 pp of text and index + inserted folding map on art paper as frontispiece + 14 other inserted folding other maps + [iv] pp of publisher's annnouncements. (No photographs, as published.)

CONDITION NOTES. Tightly bound. light rubbing to the boards. Extremities undamaged. Spine lightly sunned. Owner signature on the front paste-down. Free endpapers lightly sunned. Prelims, index and front and bottom page edges foxed. All maps present and in very  good condition.
