'Special Edition' with Rembrandt photogravure plates, full-page engravings, and numerous other original illustrations (over 300pp. per volume). Four volume set in original red leatherette boards, decorated gilt spine titles and photogravure illustrated frontispieces. The set is in generally good condition, corners bumped, covers marked and worn, wear and fading to spine, and two of the gravure illustrations are loose (detached due to to careless handling, one from volume one, and one from volume two); gatherings of some are loose in places, and some are cracked, all tissue guards and end-papers are heavily foxed/worn; volume four has the most wear as it is the volume dealing with South Africa - head of spine and rear end-paper split, front free end-paper loose, binding tender in places, contents good.
