Professor Gelfand was well known for his interest in the spiritual ;life, beliefs and practices of the Shona traditional medical practitioner. Sadly on July 19th 1985 on the day he was to see an advance copy of this book, he died suddenly while attending to a patient. This book is a fitting memorial to this great doctor and researcher. He was a world authority in tropical diseases and transitional Shona medical practices.
