This is a rare copy of the first impression with unclipped (16 shillings) dustjacket; the more frequently found second and third impressions were both printed before publication in 1952.
From the blurb: "It may be too soon to judge whether the [Second World] War produced great literature, but it has certainly thrown up some amazing tales of individual adventure and courage - and there can surely be few to equal that of Yeo-Thomas . . . How Tommy spent the 'phoney' war in the ranks of the R A F, was commissioned after the fall of France and thereafter became a specialist in organising Resistance is told in these pages . . . [He was also] one of he few British survivors of Buchenwald . . ."
White-out-of-black dustjacket, royal blue cloth boards with gilt lettering to the spine, plain cream endpapers, ix + 262 pp of text and index + frontispiece and 8 pp of inserted b/w plates.
CONDITION. The substantially complete dustjacket has been unprofessionally repaired. The binding and boards remain very good, with slightly scuffed corners.
