This, the first (1799) edition of the abridged version of this famous book, is almost as rare as the original, and this is a very good copy.
Half-bound in blue calf, patterned and decorated, with gilt title on red spine label, and grey patterned cloth-boards, Grey marbled endpapers. xvi + 218 pp + 2 frontispieces.
CONDITION NOTES. Complete and unmarked except for an ownership signature on title-page. The covers and binding remain fine. There is a 1.5 cm spine tear at the foot of the front endpaper; no other damage. The early leaves, including both frontispieces, and the last 2 leaves are lightly sunned or foxed. The contents are otherwise unmarked, undamaged and undiscoloured, making this copy highly desirable.
