Limited edition(1,250), reprinted verbatim from the original edition of 1822-4, with some additional material. Introduction by I. Schapera; \"the most valuable and accurate work on South Africa published up to the first quarter of the 19th century\".
A thrilling and fascinatingly detailed account of the Cape Colony in 1810 and the euphoria described by Burchell upon finally reaching the Orange River, after three and a half months of travel! He was not to get far beyond present day Kuruman despite his plans to go much further into the interior because of the timidity of his helpers and the dire warnings of the jealous Tswana tribe at Litakun.
