Soon after his bestselling Raka was published in 1941, N P van Wyk Louw (1906-1970) was acknowledged as one of South Africa's leading poets in Afrikaans. And this again soon changed to "THE leading living Afrikaans poet".
Steyn's massive biography is one of the best in Afrikaans, according to publisher and writer J J Human. Steyn's other books include a biography of Piet Cillie, the best-known editor of Die Burger, and, in 2008, a collection to mark the centenary of another leading Afrikaans writer, known by her initials as M E R[othman].
We have not inspected the contents, preferring to leave a new owner to have the pleasure of removing the volumes and slipcase from their original wrapping.
